Dubai

Here is photo proof that I'm actually in this city. This is a picture of the lobby of the Madinat Theatre where I'll be working. It's truly a gorgeous state of the art theatre. It's built right into the Souk, which is a traditionally designed shopping area. I don't think traditional shopping areas have Starbucks and Electronics Boutique, but it's the thought that counts.

The other picture was taken in front of the Madinat Arena, the Gala venue.

The dichotomies of this place are interesting. The hotel we're staying at is called the Habtoor Grand. It's amenities are plentiful, the decor is beautiful, it's on the Arabian Gulf... but I did not have hot water in my room for the first 4 nights. Apparently 20% of the rooms are uninhabitable.

Our days have been filled with paperwork, meetings, equipment planning and venue tours. Tonight is the dress rehearsal for opening night. Tomorrow is the Opening Gala. We've had one evening off when we went into Al Satwa, a shopping district. I haven't dipped my toes in the Gulf yet... but I must do it soon. I must!

I'll try and update again soon.
