Edinburgh... the overview

Edinburgh was just so cool. It was the last weekend of the Fringe Festival, and it was overwhelming. There were probably 500 individual shows on that weekend. Not to mention cabarets, stand up acts, buskers, opera singers, circus clowns and just entertaining drunks.

The city is medieval. The castle on the hill has been standing for centuries. Imagine what the ever changing and powerful rulers that lived up there in command of all of Scotland would think if they ever knew the tourist mecca that the castle is now.

This is the new seat of power (officially). It's the new Scottish Parliament. I don't know exactly how much power this parliament wields... Scotland is still part of Great Britain... but at least they had the courage to build this architechtural monstrosity. At the time I liked it, but now looking at this picture, it's almost like the designers were saying "You want New Bold Architechture!? We'll bloody give you New Bold Architechture!" Right across the street is the Queen's Residence in Scotland.

And then there was... Chinese Opera in the square in front of the Art Museum of course.

The weekend in Edinburgh was follwed by another few days at Neil's in Cambridge, then the flight back to Canada. I worked TIFF, and saw the Ring Cycle. More about Ontario in the next entry.
